      Grâce à une analyse de différents textes cunéiformes hittites, il sera démontré que les vêtements souvent – sinon toujours – symbolisent l’identité en Anatolie hittite. En d’autres termes, la façon dont un individu s’habille exprime son appartenance à un ou plutôt à plusieurs groupes sociaux particuliers: non seulement à ceux des catégories socioprofessionnelles (roi / reine, prêtre / prêtresse, etc.), mais aussi à ceux du genre. Le changement ritualisé des vêtements est l’une des stratégies utilisées pour symboliser le changement de l’état social ou/et symbolique d’une personne.

      Through an analysis of various Hittite cuneiform texts, it will be shown that clothing very often – if not always – symbolizes identity in Hittite Anatolia. In other words, the way an individual dresses expresses his belonging to one or, rather, several particular social groups: not only socio-professional categories (king/queen, priest/priestess, etc.), but also gender. The ritualized change of clothes is one of the strategies that is used in order to symbolize the change someone’s social or/and symbolic state.
