In Ancient Egypt, the human face appears to be particularly important for the discourse on the being or identity. The relationship of a person’s face (Egyptian her) with his perceptions (hearing, vision), his emotional states or his identity reflects a significant role of the human face (together with the heart-jb) in society. In the religious sphere, the notion of divine face is also central, especially in ritual and mythological texts. In this paper, I will deal with these two aspects of the face that I have been investigating for years.
This lectures by {Youri VOLOKHINE (Geneva University) constitutes the second monthly session of the interdisciplinary seminar “The Individual and his Body in the Ancient Mediterranean Basin” organized by Alice Mouton.}

En Égypte Antique, le visage humain semble être particulièrement important pour le discours sur l’étre ou l’identité. La relation du visage d’une personne (en égyptien her) avec ses perceptions (l’audition, la vision), ses états émotionnels ou son identité reflète le rôle significatif du visage humain (associé au coeur-jb) dans la société. Dans la sphère religieuse, la notion de visage divin est aussi centrale, particulièrement dans des textes rituels et mythologiques. Dans cette présentation, le conférencier traitera de ces deux aspects du visage qu’il a étudié pendant de nombreuses années.
Cette conférence de Monsieur {Youri VOLOKHINE (Université de Genève) constitue la deuxième séance mensuelle du séminaire interdisciplinaire de recherche} « The Individual and his Body in the Ancient Mediterranean Basin » organisé par Alice Mouton.
